William Warcop Peter Preston was born on January 6 1833. In 1860 he adopted, on the instigation of his grand great-uncle Peter Consett, the surname Consett. In 1839 the uncle left him the property with the exquisite large mansion Brawith Hall, Thirsk as well as Crosby Cote, Yorkshire. However the inheritance was left in the hands of administrators until 1860. In this way the surname Consett has been kept from becoming extinct, very common in England in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries!
On November 10 1864 about four years after his change of name William Warcop Peter Consett marries Harriet Georgina Edith Kerr, eldest daughter of Lord Charles Lennox Kerr (son of the 6th Marquess of Lothian) and Charlotte Emma Hanmer.
Of this marriage two sons and six daughters are born. Óne of them is Cordelia Mary Consett who saw light on 16 Queen’s Gate Place in South Kensington, London SW7 on October 28 1876.
